Chevron and its partners at Block B Gas-to-Power Project last week signed an agreement with the National Fund for Vietnamese Children to support upgrades and provide scholarships to more than 800 schoolchildren in the Mekong Delta region.

The $150,000 commitment builds on the existing Block B Gas-to-Power Project education programme that has already provided scholarships to more than 3,000 children in the Mekong Delta since 2009.

The Block B project partners of Chevron Vietnam, PetroVietnam Exploration Production Corporation, Mitsui Oil Exploration Company and PTT Exploration and Production Public Company have also supported the work to upgrade 14 schools in the past three years.

In addition to the scholarships, the 2013 programme will include work to upgrade four additional schools in Ca Mau, Kien Giang, Bac Lieu and Hau Giang and continue support for new Phuoc Thoi kindergarten facilities in O Mon district in Can Tho city this year.

“Chevron is committed to supporting sustainable development in its local communities and we are proud to support the good work of the National Fund for Vietnamese Children. The aim of this initiative is to build a better future for the local communities of the Mekong Delta by expanding access to quality education for children,” said Barry Andrews, president of Chevron Vietnam.
