This is the fifth school building project in five years funded by the ‘ACE Life’s Crossing Waves Fund’ through the Central Region Natural Disaster Prevention and Support Fund. The groundbreaking ceremony also took place at the school site.
The campus of Vinh Thanh No. 2 Primary School was built in 1960 and has been badly damaged by natural disasters in the last few years. With this financial support, the new building structure was designed with the national standards for elementary schools. It has two levels with eight classrooms that will offer adequate rooms and facilities to meet the basic learning needs of students.
In addition to education, the school can also serve as shelter for approximately 300 local residents in the event of flooding. Similar to the four previous school building projects funded by ACE Life, the building structure of Vinh Thanh No. 2 School was selected by the Central Region Natural Disaster Prevention and Support Fund for its stable foundation which will be able to withstand the flood and monsoon seasons.
The construction commenced in early January and is slated for completion at the beginning of a new school year of 2014-2015.
Lam Hai Tuan, chairman and country president of ACE Life in Vietnam, said, “Providing care and support for the children’s future is the responsibility of the whole society. We believe that our investment in educational support is our way of giving back to the communities especially in creating more opportunities for underprivileged youth to achieve their dreams later in life. Moreover, along with the new sales office in Vinh city, this school project strengthens our local commitment and contribution to the community in which we live and work.”
In addition to this school funding project, ACE Life has also sponsored the rebuilding of Xuan Lam Primary School (Phu Yen province), Trieu Do Primary School (Quang Tri province), Cat Chanh Primary School (Binh Dinh province) and Quang Thanh No.2 Primary School (Thua Thien Hue province). Apart from the five school building projects in impoverished provinces, the ‘Crossing Waves Fund’ also sponsored over 1,200 scholarships for underprivileged university students. To date, the ‘Crossing Waves Fund’ has contributed approximately VND13 billion ($600,000) to school building projects and scholarships.
