While other hospitals in Hanoi are pushed well beyond their limits during the COVID-19 epidemic, Hanoi American International Hospital in Cau Giay district, which was expected to be a 5-star hospital, has been abandoned for 23 years.
Hanoi American International Hospital towers on 2.7 hectares in Cau Giay district, next to Nghia Tan lake. The project was planned with having 300 international quality beds and a modern helicopter landing pad to diagnose and treat serious diseases such as blood cancer, brain, and heart disease |
The project certificate was granted in 1997 with the total investment $50 million poured by US-based Keystone Global Group. This was expected to be a 5-star hospital, equipped with modern facilities. However, more than 20 years after stopping construction, it remains a deserted and sprawling construction site, the area is now a playground for wild grass and weeds |
After 10 years of site clearance (1997-2007), the hospital began construction only to grind to a halt in 2012 |
Most parts of the construction were left unfinished |
The fences are rusting and the walls are covered by moss and weeds |
The utilities that have already been built are now dilapidated from disuse |
While the government is mobilising resources to build isolation areas for the epidemic, Hanoi American International Hospital is still abandoned, as a towering symbol of wasted national resources and a poor-performing investor |
