According to Dao Ngoc Dung, Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, "The ministry will focus on improving the quality of human resources to meet the goal of harmony between the domestic and foreign labour markets."
Information dissemination will also be strengthened to guide businesses to proactively prepare labour resources, and more vocational and foreign language skills training will be offered to workers before leaving the country.
In addition to maintaining existing markets, the MoLISA is also focussing on developing and expanding high-income markets, suitable for more highly skilled and qualified Vietnamese workers. Negotiations with partners in Germany and Australia will continue, potentially expanding the market further in the coming years.
According to a recent MoLISA report, the total number of Vietnamese workers working abroad was just under 160,000 workers by the end of last year, about one third more than projected.
Japan still leads the way as the favoured destination for Vietnamese workers, with 80,000. Next is Taiwan, with over 58,000 workers, and South Korea with more than 11,000.
