A national park located in northern Vietnam will be turned into the country’s leading eco-tourism area, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism said on Wednesday.

Ba Be National Park in Bac Kan Province is expected to become a modern and eco-friendly tourism spot which provides both local and foreign tourists with a wonderful sightseeing experience and various kinds of entertainment services.

Experts on tourism development said that Ba Be should promote its eco-tourism potential, especially its charming and stunning landscape, and some local specialties apart from road upgrading and expanding works.

They added that the tourist attraction should concentrate on developing its popular sightseeing, adventurous, ecological, cultural, spiritual, and resort tours and on making full use of its cave and fall systems as well as breathtaking scenery.

Ba Be National Park, a reserve located about 240 kilometers northwest of the capital city of Hanoi, was established in 1992, covering an area of about one hundred square kilometers which is home to more than 1,200 species of flora and fauna.

The site became Vietnam's third Ramsar site in February 2011, a title recognizing the fundamental ecological functions of a wetland and its economic, cultural, scientific and recreational value. It was also recognized as an ASEAN Heritage Park in 2004.

In 2012, the People’s Committee of the northern mountainous province of Bac Kan signed a contract with Japanese company Nikken Sekkei Civil Engineering to formulate a plan to promote Ba Be National Park’s tourism.

The plan was officially approved in October last year and is expected to be fully executed by 2030.
