Both teams tried to take control of the game in the opening minutes but failed to find a way past each other’s stubborn defence. The first half ended with many missed opportunities and no goals scored.
Vietnam seemed to dominate the game in the second half by playing short range passing, and created waves of attacks against the other side. Their efforts eventually paid off as Hong Duy scored the only goal in the 81st minute, helping Vietnam win three important points to stand firmly at the top of Group B.
After two consecutive wins over Thailand and Malaysia, Vietnam now has a good chance to reach the semi-finals.
Vietnam takes on host Indonesia tomorrow.
