Switzerland supports Vietnam to promote sustainable tourism

According to the plan, ST4SD will be implemented over 4 years from 2023-2027, and will be sponsored by SECO.

ST4SD aims to contribute to a more sustainable and inclusive tourism sector in Vietnam by promoting public-private dialogue on tourism policy and developing sustainable tourism management and business skills.

At the conference, experts and representatives of tourist authorities focused on clarifying methods to implement the work within four years. At present, the project is in its starting phase, and the parties are completing the project documents for approval.

Ha Van Sieu, vice chairman of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, said that the project is on-schedule.

“Switzerland is a country with one of the most developed tourism industries in the world, and is similar to Vietnam in terms of landscapes and tourism resources, such as mountains and rural tourism. The country is renowned as a prestigious training location, with many international students in various fields such as hotel, restaurant, and tourism management, with many of them coming from Vietnam. Thus, we hope that the project will also help to share management experience and transfer training programmes that can be implemented in Vietnam,” Sieu said.

Chief coordinator of ST4SD Kenneth Wood said that the project will support Vietnam to develop its tourism industry more comprehensively and sustainably.

“Vietnam has many opportunities for sustainable tourism development. The ST4SD project will support the development of national tourism action plans, aid in training, and coordinate with provinces and cities to develop tourism,” said Wood.

The Vietnam Tourism Marketing Strategy for 2030 has determined that tourism is a key economic sector, creating a driving force for the development of other industries and fields, and making an important contribution to the formation of a modern economic structure.

The ST4SD will be implemented in the five localities below.
