“Throughout the past 100 years, SCG has been “drawing the future” with its innovative products and services created to improve quality of life and sustain environment. To celebrate its first centenary, the company then features its principals into the SCG’s 100th Anniversary Innovative Exposition to present SCG’s endless journey for a better future through series of new innovations and technologies,” said SCG’s president and CEO Kan Trakulhoon
“The theme of the exposition is in line with the business principal of SCG to create a balance of society, environment, and economy to grow along and happily cohabit with community in a real sustainable way. This is SCG’s strong vision into the future, where by the year 2015, the company aims to become an ASEAN business leader who creates better values for customers, employees and stakeholders with quality and environmentally-friendly products and services innovation,” he added.
SCG has always been dedicated to R&D work through the developments of its own technologies while strengthening its product and service innovations with HVA (High Value Added).
The company has pioneered many new business models and expanded R&D network and intellectual property in and outside the country.
Currently, SCG boasts 1,034 experts and professionals in R&D as well as 71 PhD researchers who spend time devising new HVA products and services, resulting in a sharp increase of SCG’s HVA products - from 4 per cent of the total sales in 2004 to 34 per cent in 2012.
SCG projects that the HVA products will make a 50 per cent proportion in the company’s total sales by 2015. It is also expected that by the year 2018, SCG’s R&D troop will be composed of 1,600 personnel with 170 PhD researchers employing about 5.6 billion baht worth of R&D budget.
“To sharpen SCG’s competitive edges, we need to strive for excellence in R&D. We perceive our industrial products not merely as commodity, but higher quality products that fit into the more proportionately complicated demands. That’s when good-tailored R&D comes in. We also cooperate with the governmental organisations, private sectors as well as local and international R&D institutions,” Kan explained.
This SCG 100th Anniversary Innovative Exposition, lasting from August 2 to September 1, 2013, features SCG’s long-standing history throughout the Thai society with displays of the company’s socio-and-environmental innovations that also set new living trends of the future.
The exposition, categorised in different zones, will include: SCG Heritage portraying the company’s first century from the beginning towards being the top of innovations; SCG Innovative Store with a storefront novelty to facilitate future ‘Anywhere Anytime…You can Browse and Buy’ lifestyle where people can shop and get information of their desired products whenever and wherever they are; SCG Innovation for Life where all needs will be served 24-hour a day; The City of Tomorrow featuring the future living trend with enhanced life quality; and Drawing the Future Pavilion boasting Thailand’s first live performance with a high-tech mix of multimedia technology.
“With a strong commitment to drive innovations for future sustainable growth, SCG has long been recognised as a leading innovative organisation for years. Chief among them is the Thailand Corporate Excellence Awards of Innovation Excellence that were selected by top management of 1,000 leading companies in Thailand and SCG has been awarded for seventh consecutive years. SCG will continue to focus on R&D works as key mechanic to drive sustainable growth in ASEAN. And, we would like to motivate other ASEAN organisations to play a harder role on R&D as it has become a standard practice that ASEAN countries rely on,” Kan underscored.
Apart from the exposition, SCG also staged the Thailand Innovation Forum to demonstrate the concept of transferring R&D to commercialisation. The forum, which took place on August 15 at Crystal Design Centre (CDC) ballroom, was presided over by Thailand Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, while global R&D veterans from private and governments sectors also joined as keynote speakers and panelists to share knowledge at the forum.
