The competition is designed for young people to improve their understanding of green living style and to promote innovative applications as well as "sustainable production and consumption" in Vietnam.
The contest was launched on April 15, 2013 and provided the opportunity for young people to improve their knowledge through series events of trainings, workshops and even field trips with the engagement of government officials, non-governmental organisations and business in the field.
In Hanoi, the candidates visited Moevenpick Hotel which won the ‘Green Globe’ award and the HITC building which won prizes on energy management efficiency in 2010 by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and participated in the ‘Sustainable Agriculture – Iphone vs Irice award’ and ‘Youth and Green Energy’ seminars.
A group of students in Ho Chi Minh City joined the ‘Green Job – We choose’ seminar and another group was welcome in Puma’s Global Sustainability Field trip in the southern province of Long An.
The ideas towards a sustainable economy can be submitted by photo format or a 500 words text. Moreover, in the last phase, the best candidates will get the chance to go practical with these ideas with the support from local and national communities and businesses.
Green Empowering contest has attracted 85 writing entries and 25 photo entries on various topics, mainly in the fields of agriculture, forestry, waste management and industry, energy, green building, education, transportation, tourism and sustainable consumption and production.
EuroCham and Live & Learn has invited representatives from the Ministry of Education and Training, Hanoi Young Business Association, Scheneider Electric and Green ID to select the best entries, which will be supported to go practical and to be announced for awards in the Closing Session of the Green-Biz 2013 conference on September 20, 2013.
The contest brought to young people in Vietnam a modern, innovative playground where best practices, awareness, feasible solutions are raised and shared.
