ANZ Regional said Dam Bich Thuy’s role as the bank’s vice president for Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam would not be replaced.

Dam Bich Thuy

She has quit this post to become CEO of Vietnamese bank VIB.

High-profile Vietnamese banker Thuy in 2005 became CEO of ANZ Vietnam, also in charge of Cambodia and Laos, after 10 years working for ANZ Singapore. She then left the position to Tareq Muhmood from Britain in July 2011 to take the role of Mekong vice president.

Thuy told VIR she was waiting for State Bank approval to be CEO of VIB, where Commonwealth Bank of Australia currently holds a 20 per cent stake. “I hope I can do something for a Vietnamese bank.”

ANZ Vietnam has recognised her contributions to its development.

Hanoi-based VIB, or Vietnam International Bank, expects her new role to take effect this April to replace Duong Thi Mai Hoa, who left the post for personal reasons in January. In the mean time, its deputy CEO Le Quang Trung is the caretaker.

Meanwhile, Hoa already joined Maritime Bank, also based in Hanoi, to be corporate banking director.
