Addressing the conference, Le Trong Minh, VIR's editor-in-chief said, "Digital development based on digital technology and digital data is becoming a driving force for Vietnam to pursue fast-paced, sustainable, and comprehensive development amidst the global turbulence. The digital economy creates more wealth for citizens, so Vietnam can realise its aspirations of becoming an upper middle-income country by 2030 and a high-income country by 2045."
Vietnam has set a target of having the digital economy account for 25 per cent of its GDP in 2025 and 30 per cent by 2030. The proportion of the digital economy in each industry or field is at least 10 per cent in 2025, doubling by 2030.
"Developing digital platforms is a breakthrough solution to expedite digital transformation, reduce costs, and increase effectiveness. It is a basic point in the National Digital Transformation Programme to 2025, with a vision towards 2030. Meanwhile, international cooperation plays a vital role in facilitating digital transformation, especially in society. Vietnamese businesses and organisations partner with major tech companies in the world on research and development, technology transfer, and new model applications in Vietnam," Minh said
To create a foundation for digital transformation, it is also vital to develop digital infrastructure to meet the soaring demand for data processing and connectivity. This includes developing the high-quality mobile broadband infrastructure, replanning the radio frequency, developing 5G mobile telecommunications infrastructure, and commercialising 5G mobile telecommunications. Efforts should be made to expand regional and international internet connections, especially developing submarine optical cable lines.
"Today's conference aims to update new developments in the development of digital infrastructure, digital ecosystem, and digital economy in Vietnam. The conference takes place anticipating Innovate Vietnam 2024 on October 1-2 and the National Digital Transformation Day on October 10. Experts and businesses will share insights and discuss solutions to accelerate digital transformation and the digital economy in Vietnam," Minh added.
The event also heard the best practices and lessons from top-notch experts and leaders from renowned companies such as Ericsson Vietnam, MobiFone, AWS Vietnam, Grab Vietnam, and other organisations like the Ministry of Information and Communications, the Association of Telecommunications and Technology Industry in Singapore, and EuroCham's Digital Sector Committee.
