Vietnam’s top leaders to be announced on January 28

Vietnam’s Politburo and top leaders of Party General Secretary, President and National Assembly Chairman will be announced on January 28, as one of the most important parts of the ongoing 8-day National Party Congress opening in Hanoi yesterday.

Under the main theme of promoting the building of a strong and pure Party, the 12th Congress gathered 1,510 delegates who represent 4.5 million Party members nationwide.

According to the tentative agenda, the delegates continue discussing documents of the 12th National Party Congress on January 22 and 23. The Congress’ important documents include the 11th Party Central Committee’s Political Report, a report reviewing the implementation of socio-economic development goals during 2011-2015 and putting forth directions and goals for 2016-2020, and also a report reviewing the leadership of the 11th Party Central Committee.

The number and candidates of the 12th Party Central Committee will be discussed and nominated on Saturday afternoon on January 24. The new Party Central Committee is expected to consist of 180 official members and 20 alternate members.

The list of elected Party Central Committee members will be announced on January 26 and the Politburo and Vietnam’s top leaders will be announced on the following day.
