Vietnam has set a target to stand in the top five of the finals to grab a ticket to advance to the Women’s World Cup in Canada in 2015.

The team will take part in the finals as the leader of group C after scoring three wins over Bahrain, Kyrgyzstan, and Hong Kong.

The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has recently applied to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) to host the finals of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup. Now, Australia is the main opponent to compete for the right.

“Hosting the event will give Vietnam an advantage on home soil,” said Truong Hai Tung – chief of the department of national teams under the VFF.

Four group leaders including Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam and a team in group A to start competition next month will join the four automatic teams, Australia, Japan, China, and South Korea, to play in the Asian Cup finals. The five top teams will advance to Canada.

After leading group C, the Vietnamese team was awarded a cash prize of VND1 billion ($48,000) by the VFF and Eximbank.
