Vietnam, France to foster economic ties

The two leaders reached the agreement during a meeting in New York on September 28 on the sidelines of the 70th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The two sides agreed that businesses from both countries should enhance cooperation in such fields as infrastructure development, transport network, subway, aviation, energy, agriculture, food processing, environment, smart urban development and advanced health care system, to tap France’s advantages and meet Viet Nam’s needs.

President Sang affirmed that Viet Nam attached importance to relations with France and considered France as a leading partner of the country in Europe and the world.

The two leaders expressed their pleasure with positive developments in bilateral ties after the strategic partnership was established in 2013 and agreed to enhance delegation exchanges at all levels and deepen cooperative dialogue mechanisms between the two countries in strategy, security, national defence and economy.

The Vietnamese leader repeated his invitation to visit Viet Nam to his French counterpart, saying the visit would be an important milestone in bilateral ties.

President Sang suggested France support developing relations between Viet Nam and the European Union (EU), particularly concluding and ratifying the Viet Nam-EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), while recognizing the market economy of Viet Nam and boosting ratification of the Viet Nam-EU Comprehensive Partnership and Cooperation.

The leader expressed his gratitude to France for its effective supports in development cooperation and realization of millennium development goals. He hoped that both sides would continue close collaboration in implementing post-2015 development goals.

Both sides agreed to foster trilateral projects among Viet Nam, France and Africa; support each other at multilateral forums and such international matters as joining the UN’s peace keeping force, protecting water resources and coping with climate change.

President Sang also expressed his gratitude to France’s support to Viet Nam’s candidacy for non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council for the 2020-2021 term and called on France’s support to Viet Nam’s candidacy for membership of the UNESCO Executive Council for the 2015-2019 term and the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

Regarding regional issues of mutual concerns, President Sang lauded France’s positive stance on security and peace issues in Asia Pacific and its support to the viewpoint of Viet Nam and ASEAN on issues related to the East Sea.

He suggested that France continue promoting its important role and voices in protecting peace and stability, ensuring maritime and aviation freedom in the East Sea, resolving disputes through peaceful means in accordance with international laws.

President Sang also reaffirmed Viet Nam’s good will in being a bridge enhancing relations between France and ASEAN.

President Hollande expressed his hope that Viet Nam would send a delegation to attend the United Nations Climate Change Conference(COP21) in Paris in December.

The Vietnamese counterpart affirmed that Viet Nam would send a delegation to attend the event and make contributions to its success.
