While welcoming Swedish State Secretary to Minister for Trade Gunnar Oom, who is in Vietnam for a visit, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai pledged all possible support for Swedish investors to do business in Vietnam.

The Deputy PM made the pledge at a meeting with the Swedish diplomat in Hanoi on Wednesday, during which he also lauded Sweden’s recent moves to promote bilateral ties, including high-ranking visits and investment encouragement, helping two-way trade to grow by an average 10-20 percent over the past six years.

Deputy PM Hai said that Vietnam is encouraging foreign investment in public transport, clean energy and pollution treatment, and promised to provide favorable conditions for foreign players, including those from Sweden, for mutual benefits.

Hai suggested that the two countries coordinate to hold activities to welcome the 45th anniversary of their diplomatic ties next year.

In reply, the Swedish guest told his host that he is impressed by Vietnam’s achievements in socio-economic development in the recent past.

He said when Sweden’s official development assistance (ODA) program for Vietnam ends this year, his country will work with Vietnam to seek new models of cooperation to maintain and develop the fine friendship between the two countries.

Many Swedish investors operating in transport, renewable energy and environmentally-friendly technology are interested in the Vietnamese market, he said.
