The Halong Shipbuilding Company started building two 47,500 tonne ships yesterday for an order of the Vietnam National Shipping Lines Corporation (Vinalines).

These are the first of four bulk cargo carrier ships to be built for the second phase of the project in the government’s plan to develop Vietnam’s fleet.

They are also the largest ships ever built by the Halong Shipbuilding Company.

Each ship is 190 metres long and 32.2 metres wide with 17 metres of freeboard height, and has five holds and is capable of travelling at a maximum speed of 14.2 nautical miles per hour.

The ships are designed by the Win – Win Engineering Company from the Repulic of Korea (RoK) and supervised by the RoK’s Register.
