Thai Nguyen has announced its development plan for the transport sector in 2021-2025, with a vision towards 2030 to resolve the issues facing the sector.
Urban areas are now increasingly reaching for IT solutions to their transport problems and smart transport development promises to drive local socio-economic development in the years to come. However, it requires huge up-front investment.
Thai Nguyen is striving to achieve strong industrial development. Economic growth and rapid urbanisation lead to growing transport demand, resulting in great pressures on the existing transport system, including traffic jams and traffic accidents.
“We are studying the issue and working on optimal solutions to modernise and develop the local transport system,” said Trinh Ba Son, head of the provincial Traffic Safety and Quality Agency.
Despite strong investment over the past years, local transport infrastructure remains unable to meet increasing growing numbers of vehicles and traffic. Each year, the province sees 46,000 more vehicles on its streets.
This is expected to bring about opportunities for businesses and investors in IT, especially those providing solutions for smart transport development.
Thai Nguyen province has the third highest number of individual cars, lagging only behind Hanoi and Danang, according to the government-run General Statistics Office. Meanwhile, the local population is only about 1.3 million.
At present, more than 20 cities and provinces across the country have been developing smart transport monitoring systems with proven efficiency.
