The Vietnamese Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) on April 1, in cooperation with South Korea’s Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning, is going to hold a conference on deploying 4G LTE in Vietnam.

The conference is within the cooperation programme between the two ministries on information technology. At the conference, South Korean network providers SKT and KT are going to talk about the technology needed to deploy 4G while representatives of the Vietnamese government are going to talk about Vietnam’s policy on LTE. Samsung is going to speak on the deployment of 4G in India.

Representatives of the above organisations as well as representatives of either VNPT or MobiFone, Vietnam’s leading operators, are going to discuss the challenges Vietnam is facing in deploying 4G and how to make the deployment faster and more efficient.

All mobile service providers in Vietnam have plans to provide 4G service. Last December, Viettel tested the service in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau, with an average speed between 40 and 80 Mb/s, though it could hit 230 Mb/s in some spots.

Vinaphone piloted the technology on Phu Quoc island and in Ho Chi Mnh City in January this year. Most recently, a few days ago MobiFone said it would start testing 4G in three major cities: Hanoi, Danang and Ho Chi Minh City.

Vietnamese network operators will be allowed to provide 4G commercially from 2017, according to the MIC.
