Sustainable urbanisation a vital goal

Today, more than half of the world lives in cities and urban developments, which is projected to grow to 68 per cent by 2025. In Vietnam alone, the urban population grows at an average rate of nearly 3 per cent per year – the fastest in the Southeast Asian region – with Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi growing at 4.0 and 3.8 per cent, respectively. Although managing densely populated urban areas has become one of the most imperative challenges to sustainable development in the 21st century, Vietnam has made some substantial progress to push for sustainability in the urban landscape.
