SABECO community initiatives continue to pick up the pace |
On March 29-31, the Tien Phong Marathon National Championship took place in Tuy Hoa city of the south-central province of Phu Yen, with the participation of 11,600 athletes, including 300 professionals.
For the fourth consecutive year, Saigon Beer-Alcohol-Beverage Corporation (SABECO) is collaborating with Tien Phong newspaper to continue promoting a positive, healthy lifestyle as well as promoting scenic landscapes and indigenous cultural beauty.
Lester Tan, CEO of SABECO, said that supporting the marathon demonstrates its commitment to implement its sustainable development mission.
“We look forward to working with local authorities, organisations, and businesses to spread the spirit of love for sport, physical training, an active lifestyle, and promoting the unique cultural beauty of the locality to tourists and participants,” said Tan.
Also in last days of March, SABECO supported Vietnam Glory to honour the nation’s successful sportspeople of 2024 and helped launch Hanoimoi’s annual Run for Peace and Olympic Run Day to celebrate the 78th anniversary of Vietnam Sports Day on March 27.
“We are also proud to promote positive change for the development of Vietnamese sports through projects that support young talent and improve Vietnamese sports through practical action,” Tan added.
More than 4,500 participants, including nearly 1,000 pro athletes, ran around Hoan Kiem lake in Hanoi following the launch.
For several years, SABECO and its Bia Saigon brand have been initiating many community programmes in other provinces and cities, such as the Light Up Rural Areas and Fostering Sports, in collaboration with the Ho Chi Minh City Communist Youth Union in response to the national strategy on building new rural areas.
As part of Light Up Rural Areas, SABECO has built 73km of solar street lights across all provinces and cities and around 10 community sports fields. Meanwhile, the Fostering Sports initiative has upgraded 10 community sports fields in 10 provinces, and 20 more playgrounds will be built this year to promote the spirit of physical training and sport.
Programmes to support workers in difficult circumstances as well as frontline forces such as border guards are also held regularly every year by SABECO and Bia Saigon during Lunar New Year to express gratitude for their contributions to the country. This year, more than 10,000 gifts were delivered in 25 cities and provinces across the country, just before the holiday.
The company has also been consistently implementing various initiatives and community support programmes since 2020, channelling over $1.8 million to almost 28,000 beneficiaries across all provinces. The initiatives, ranging from essential gifts to lucky money envelopes and transport tickets, aimed to ensure that workers and disadvantaged individuals can enjoy a warm and joyous Lunar New Year.
As one of the leading enterprises in sustainable development activities, over the past five years, SABECO has provided some innovation to improve brand and product quality, as well as apply alternative solutions to minimise impacts on the environment and climate change, including rooftop solar power projects across 26 SABECO brewing facilities.
Despite the difficult challenges caused by economic fluctuations in recent years, SABECO still maintains jobs for more than 12,000 direct workers and many more indirect employees in service and support industries in the same supply chain.
Last year, SABECO was honoured to be among the Top 100 Sustainable Development Enterprises, as awarded by the Vietnam Business Council for Sustainable Development.
