The company’s accomplishments include the new TAL garment factory in the northern
province of Vinh Phuc
The company began its work in the region in 1985 when it was appointed by the World Bank/UNDP to undertake the emergency rehabilitation of a sea dyke destroyed by a typhoon.
Since then, HaskoningDHV Vietnam has developed into a strong local market player and a strategic hub for Royal HaskoningDHV in Southeast Asia. The team has grown into a 200-strong organisation that continues to build on a very diverse project portfolio with Vietnamese and international clients in the private and public sector.
Now in its 30th year of operation, Royal HaskoningDHV is looking ahead to the future.
Commenting on the company’s strategic focus and experience in Vietnam, Lars Crombach, managing director of HaskoningDHV Vietnam said: “We live in a world which is facing challenges on many fronts. The world’s population is rapidly growing and, despite economic growth in the emerging world, there will always be large numbers of people whose aspirations remain just out of reach due to limited resources.”
He continued, “As engineers, we have a crucial role to play in finding solutions to these challenges, for our clients, for society, as well as our communities, whether here in Vietnam or across the region.”
Royal HaskoningDHV has been involved in a number of major infrastructure and development projects across Southeast Asia which have not only been significant feats of engineering, but have also contributed to improving the living circumstances for many people and enhancing society in general.
Key projects include the Mekong Delta Plan (MDP), developed to support and progress agriculture, fisheries, and forestry in an area which is home to 17 million people. Various major water supply and urban upgrade projects, co-funded by the Vietnamese and Dutch governments, have been completed or are currently under construction in Vietnam. Royal HaskoningDHV also designed the new terminal building at the Danang international airport and completed a technical and financial review of the metro line No.5 in Ho Chi Minh City.
The company has also been involved in numerous industrial projects, including the Nghi Son refinery and petrochemical complex (a major project in the development of Vietnam), the TAL garment factory in Vinh Phuc, breweries for Heineken/APB/VBL and Sabeco, dairy and food factories for Dutch Lady and Unilever, and coffee factories for Nestlé.
Success for Royal HaskoningDHV in Vietnam is not only underpinned by these and other projects, but also by its ability to expertly combine local experience with its international network, a strategy which continues to create added value and benefits for clients today. It has also led to increased growth and strategic importance for the Vietnam offices, and more recently, relocation of its Ho Chi Minh City operations to new offices in District 2.
Crombach is both positive and enthusiastic in looking back at the company’s achievements over the past 30 years, and towards addressing the urban, industrial, water and transportation challenges.
“We have proven expertise and experience to help our clients, and their clients, to be truly prepared for the future and to find responsible, sustainable solutions for the issues they face,” he continued. “I am confident that what we have established here in Vietnam will continue to benefit our clients, the country, and the region for years to come.”
