According to Quang Nam’s approved planning towards 2030, the central province is to develop modern general services and form a logistics and multi-modal transport centre.

It will develop the Chu Lai International Airport and Quang Nam’s seaport system associated with non-tariff zones and industrial parks, while also building a logistics centre at Nam Giang International Border Gate Economic Zone for goods from Thailand and Laos to Vietnam, and vice versa.

The province is focused on developing the transport and logistics industry as an effective bridge between production and consumption, meeting the increasing needs of tourism and border economic activities, and creating an effective connection network between economic and industrial zones, industrial clusters, urban areas, and residential areas.

It will also aim to synchronously develop infrastructure, including transportation, distribution, and warehouse networks, connecting destinations in the province with each other and with provinces in the region and throughout the country.

According to Quang Nam Department of Industry and Trade, infrastructure activities, investment attraction, promotion of IT application, reform of administrative procedures, trade promotion for logistics services, business support, and training human resources will aim for specific results this decade.

Chu Lai International Airport is planned to be a level 4F airport and a level I military airport by 2030. By then, Chu Lai will have a capacity of five million passengers and 1.5 million tonnes of cargo per year.

In the maritime sector, Chu Lai Port will play the role of a container yard associated with a cold storage chain. In particular, the port will become a new logistics service destination for the central region based on convenient transportation as well as easy connections to industrial and economic areas in the region and international border gates.

At the same time, Quang Nam will continue to invest in dredging the Cua Lo channel to accommodate ships of 500,000 tonnes, becoming a class 1 seaport. It will invest in port infrastructure and port logistics areas to develop and form a maritime logistics centre in the central region, becoming a place for transshipment of goods from the Central Highlands provinces to southern Laos, northeast Thailand, and northeast Cambodia.

Already, many important road projects serving logistics have been implemented in recent times, such as accelerating progress and completing phase 1 of the Vietnam coastal road project. Phase 2 of the Hoi An-Tam Ky section has been completed, and construction of phase 2 of the Tam Ky-Chu Lai section is underway.

A senior offical of Quang Nam People’s Committee said, “To become a logistics centre, first of all the provincial planning must be fully implemented. Then, we must call for investors to develop logistics. I believe that in just two or three years, it will be convenient to call for investors into this field because of the favourable infrastructure that will be competitive with elsewhere. And so in the near future, investors will benefit when investing in logistics in this area.”

Quang Nam is located on main traffic routes such as National Highway No.1A and the national highways of the East-West Economic Corridor which are connected with the Central Highlands provinces, Laos, and Thailand.
