Navigos Group, Vietnam’s leading head-hunting firm, recently announced the company’s merger with Japanese partner en-japan. Jonah Levey, founder, chairman and CEO of Navigos Group spoke with VIR about the development plans for Navigos in the coming period.

Given the success of Navigos in becoming Vietnam’s leading recruitment services provider, as well as your American background before relocating to Vietnam in 2002, what was the main reason behind your decision to choose en-japan as the new majority stakeholder?

We have had discussions with many international recruitment companies over the years who were interested in acquiring the Navigos Group as a way to enter the Vietnamese market. In choosing the right partner we wanted a company committed to both online recruiting as well as executive head-hunting. We wanted a partner with a corporate culture and strategy that matched ours and with leaders who shared our core values.

We also wanted a partner who could bring expertise, scale and reach far beyond Vietnam that would better service our clients and job seekers. For all of these reasons en-japan seemed the perfect fit.

With the new Japanese thrust, how will you drive Navigos Search and VietnamWorks.com towards achieving new targets given their separate missions?

In fact VietnamWorks and Navigos Search share the same mission - to help jobseekers and employers achieve their dreams. We do this by helping people advance in their careers and by assisting companies recruit the talent they need. VietnamWorks.com and Navigos Search differ only in the way they set about achieving this mission.

As part of en-japan we can now better serve our clients with additional resources and offices in Japan, China, Hong Kong, Korea, Singapore and Australia, as well as, of course, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. This allows a culture of best practice sharing and broader candidate sourcing between our international offices. Additionally, it helps us to seamlessly perform for regional clients.

What do you expect from your Japanese partner?

VietnamWorks.com is the country’s number one job website, matching top job opportunities with the best candidates. We post over 1,000 new jobs weekly. Our site is visited by over one million job seekers every month and we process several million job applications every year. Our Executive Search service – Navigos Search – is the leading and largest executive recruitment firm in Vietnam. We have successfully concluded over 6,000 executive searches to date. And we make at least one executive placement per day. We support employers and job seekers by bringing together the right jobs with the right applicants and have earned our reputation as the market leader over our 11 year history. We have over 200 employees dedicated to ensuring our job seekers and employers are successful. We recruit for jobs in virtually every professional position and industry and throughout Vietnam.

We expect our new partner to provide additional support to both our local and regional clients. An important aspect of this is our massive candidate database extending far beyond Vietnam’s borders. This enables us to recruit the best talent for our clients, even when that talent comes from another country.

How do you think the involvement of en-japan will contribute to networking the labour markets of Japan and Vietnam?

Since we have deep knowledge of the leading employers and most qualified talent in both Japan and Vietnam, we are better able to serve across borders. We can help to introduce Vietnamese professionals to job opportunities in Japan and vice versa.

Have you ever thought of reproducing your success story with a new venture in Japan after you drew experiences from working with a giant Japanese recruitment service provider like en-japan?

At the moment we have no plans to do so, but if this ever changes, we’ll keep you posted!
