The Mercedes-Benz GLC is widely acclaimed across multiple segments in Vietnam |
Mercedes-Benz GLC was the first car in its segment to be equipped with the automatic 9G-TRONIC transmission. Apart from cutting down 6.5 per cent on fuel consumption, this transmission can offer the vehicle robust and smooth operation at low torque. Applying innovative, light materials to the vehicle body, the suspension system and drivetrain has reduced the GLC’s total weight by 80 kilogrammes compared to its predecessor, which is essentially equal to one occupant and accompanying luggage.
184, 211, and 245 horsepower I4 engines are equipped on the GLC 200, GLC 250 4MATIC, and GLC 300 AMG 4MATIC. Especially, the rated torques of 350 and 370 Newton metres are reached at 1,200 revolutions per minute (rpm), allowing quick acceleration for a mid-sized SUV. These numbers easily satisfy drivers in Vietnamese conditions.
Remarkably, the GLC 300 AMG 4MATIC engine was awarded as one of the 10 best engines in the world in 2017 by the prestigious WardsAuto automotive intelligence firm.
The best-selling premium car
While it took its predecessor – the GLK – six years to reach the total sales volume of 2,000 units, more than 6,000 GLC vehicles have been delivered to Vietnamese customers only two years after its launch. This also means that a GLC is sold every three hours. In 2017, the GLC’s sales volume increased by 80 per cent, reaching the record of 2,500 units.
In addition, three variants of the Mercedes-Benz GLC with different designs and option packages also offer customers various choices.
While the GLC 250 4MATIC is dedicated for off-road use thanks to better approach and departure angles, together with the Off-Road Engineering Package, the GLC 300 AMG 4MATIC is appealing with its sporty exterior design, AMG body-kit, more robust engine, and other top-notch options. MBV also introduced the GLC 200 at a more competitive price. The “Luxury” package will offer the GLC 200 the same exterior design as the GLC 250, apart from headlamps, bumper, and light-alloy wheels. The former features Full LED high performance headlamps. Its trapezium-shaped chrome-plated front bumper offers an elegant design, while 18-inch five single spoke light-alloy wheels embrace a sporty and masculine look.
Luxury cars in the hand
The GLC 250 4MATIC and GLC 300 AMG 4MATIC are priced at VND1.989 billion ($86,480) and VND2.289 billion ($99,500), respectively (VAT included), which makes them considerably competitive against their competitors in the same segment. Moreover, the price of a GLC in Vietnam is equivalent or lower than in neighbour countries, as currently the GLC 250 4MATIC OFF-ROAD in Thailand costs THB3.29 billion ($101,292). Especially, the GLC 200, priced at VND1.699 billion ($73,900), has drawn great interest from Vietnamese customers, not only those who are GLC owners, but also those coming from the mass segment.
