Most people suffer from dry skin, particularly at certain times of the year. Yet there is much to be said for vibrant, healthy skin and the extent to which exuberant skin adds to a person’s overall beauty. It’s not easy to keep skin moisturised.

This explains the burgeoning sales of moisturising soaps and lotions. People also eat skin-friendly fruit and vegetables, drink the recommended eight glasses of water a day and even avoid hot water baths that can lift away the skin’s natural moisture content.

Ultimately, however, air quality is a crucial factor; a factor not recognised by enough people. It is possible for skin to dry out when conventional air conditioners are kept running for extended periods of time. This is where new technology can make a big difference.

A good air conditioner can go a long way to keeping skin soft, healthy and happy. In fact, air conditioning manufacturers have been hard at work in recent years developing advanced technologies to unlock the secrets of providing the perfect air for beautiful skin.

Moisturizing your skin

Cells need water to function, and their ability to hold water is an indicator of their health. Age, stress, free radicals and pollution can all have a damaging effect on cells. In particular, membranes on the cells deteriorate and start leaking water.

Unfortunately, many of these factors are, to some extent or another, out of our control. We can, however, take action to bring our skin back to health. Skin moisturizers are one common method of combating dryness.

In fact, the cosmetics industry has focused a great deal of research and development on creating a range of moisturising products, and these products represent a rapidly growing market. Particularly in regions such as Southeast Asia, skin care awareness is on the rise, as reflected by moisturiser sales. Companies such as Clinique, Estée Lauder and Shiseido have led the charge, providing overnight masks and other products on top of their moisturiser lineup.

While lotions are important, a lot of attention has also been given the foods we eat. Foods that deliver ample moisture-inducing vitamins, such as vitamins A, B3, C and E, are increasing in popularity.

Salmon and walnuts have been shown to boost omega-3, which also helps maintain healthy skin. Likewise, vegetables such as spinach – packed full of vitamins – and fruits such as particular berries – also vitamin-rich – are gaining popularity.

Air that Brings Beauty to Your Skin
What’s lesser known is that home appliances can also provide moisturising, albeit with advanced technology rather than creams or berries. For example, LG’s latest air conditioner has innovative skin care features that go well beyond cooling.

It is not well recognised that using an air conditioner for extended periods tends to steal away moisture. Recently, LG has made huge strides in solving this dilemma, using some very clever technology to preserve moisture in the air while still providing powerful cooling and even removing harmful impurities.

For instance, LG’s Deluxe Inverter V, one of its advanced air conditioners, comes equipped with a sophisticated skin care function that keeps skin healthy by enabling moisture to be more easily absorbed into the skin’s pores. Moreover, the system is just as effective as moisturizing cosmetics.

This is made possible by LG’s highly regarded Plasmaster technology. It works by channeling polarised ions into the air. The ions are then surrounded by water molecules in the air, allowing the ions to be easily absorbed into pores, ultimately fighting dryness and promoting healthier, more vitalised skin.

To study just how effective the Plasmaster locked in moisture, research was carried out to measure the humidity of the outer skin in various locations, including the eyelids, cheeks, lips, forehead and hands.

The Deluxe Inverter V improved humidity levels in the skin by 15 per cent. Researchers noted that the air conditioner’s moisturising capabilities were ideal when combined with the effects of moisturising cosmetics.

In addition, the air conditioner’s noise levels have been reduced to a whisper-quiet 19dB when in use. These ultra-low noise levels may well also contribute to healthier skin, albeit indirectly, since the human body is better able to repair itself during a good night’s sleep. After all, a good night’s sleep can do wonders to relieve stress, and by extension, help promote skin vitality.

LG’s Deluxe Inverter V and its innovative skin care function

The Deluxe Inverter V is LG’s latest residential air conditioner, and is equipped with the Plasmaster, a unique innovation that purifies the air using applied plasma technology.

LG has devoted considerable research to plasma technology for a significant amount of time. The term ‘plasma’ refers to the creation of a fourth state of matter in addition to the solid, liquid and gas states.

In this state, both negative and positive ions coexist and react with airborne moisture. By harnessing plasma technology, the Deluxe Inverter V makes moisture control a much more exact science.

Air quality can be precisely measured and any indoor environment can be made sufficiently humid to maintain the optimal conditions for skin to thrive in.

What truly differentiates LG’s Plasmaster from rival systems is the next step that it takes in providing the ultimate skin care. Instead of simply increasing moisture levels, the Plasmaster channels airborne moisture molecules which have had their size adjusted to enter skin pores more easily.

Plasmaster technology is also used to control the characteristics of the polarized ions entering the air. It envelops individual ions in water molecules to be absorbed into the skin’s pores. The water molecules are 30 to 50 nanometers in size, ideally suited for the average skin pore, creating healthier, more vitalised skin.

Actually, this feature also increases the humidity in the skin by 15 per cent. In an impressive series of tests, the Deluxe Inverter V allows the Plasmaster ions to moisturise skin which had already had cosmetics applied to it.

Plasmaster technology comes to the skin’s aid, enhancing air purity. Crucially, LG’s air conditioner sterilizes both the air in the surrounding space and the air traveling through the air conditioner itself.

Whereas conventional air conditioning systems are vulnerable to mold-producing moisture collecting around the heat exchanger, the Plasmaster Auto Cleaning feature sterilises the air conditioner’s interior, preventing mold and bacteria from forming within the unit.

In addition, the Plasmaster Ionizer releases over 54 trillion polarised ions to sterilise the surrounding air of all harmful substances, such as bacteria, germs and even odor. The result is a living space that is an industry leading 19 times more sterile than that maintained by a conventional air conditioner.

The Plasmaster Cyclone Filter can incinerate tiny dust particles and eliminate germs with up to 30 per cent greater efficiency than conventional models. Additionally, innovative air filters, namely the Triple Filter and the Pre Filter, enable even more enhanced air purification.

Impressively, all of these innovative functions are delivered while at the same time energy consumption is reduced. In fact, the Deluxe Inverter V is able to reduce energy use by up to 60 per cent over previous models.

In turn, customers can enjoy better air and help preserve the environment, all the while saving on their electricity bills.
