Singapore-based Keppel Corporation is donating $2 million towards the Keppel-NUS Vietnam Medicine Programme at the National University of Singapore (NUS).

The donaton is part of the corporation’s new Keppel Care Foundation, established to provide assistance for the needy and under-privileged, promote education as well as encourage eco-friendly mindsets and initiatives last week.

The funds valued at SGD4.2 million ($3.43 million), from Keppel to NUS, will go towards supporting various educational programmes at NUS, including the Keppel-NUS Vietnam Programme in Medicine, which will receive SGD2.5 million ($2.04 million) from the Keppel Care Foundation.

The programme supports the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine's work with Hanoi Medical University, Military Medical University No.103 and Ho Chi Minh Medical University to achieve mutual learning, benchmarking, and improvement of healthcare in the region.

The programme also supports the schools' work in training in medical education; the Asia Pacific Medical Education conference to advance knowledge for best practice in medical education; student elective attachments to build bridges between the future doctors of Singapore and Vietnam; infectious diseases research, clinical attachments and training.

“With the group’s growing businesses and presence around the world, there is a need to sharpen our focus and organise the efforts and contributions to worthy causes. Hence, we decided to establish a foundation to provide a more structured and sustainable framework for the group’s Corporate Social Responsibility work at home and abroad," said Lee Boon Yang, chairman of Keppel Corporation.
