The courses aim to support businesses, especially steel, cement, and thermal power production facilities, to conduct greenhouse gas inventories and prepare for participation in the carbon market as Vietnam moves towards low-carbon economic development.
Nguyen Dinh Tho, general director of ISPONRE, said, "The courses provide knowledge on greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction measures and help businesses prepare to participate in the carbon market by using carbon pricing mechanisms to choose green technologies."
Key contents include a roadmap for developing the carbon market in Vietnam, from establishing legal foundations (2023-2024), piloting transactions (2025-2028), to official operation in 2029, with the expectation of connecting with the international market.
Businesses will delve into the roles of intermediary organisations such as banks and regulatory agencies, as well as trading methods on the carbon credit market at the Hanoi Stock Exchange. This is an opportunity for businesses to proactively adapt to new policies, build sustainable development strategies, and enhance competitive capabilities following the global trend of carbon emission reduction initiatives.
The government has issued measures to reduce GHG emissions and protect the ozone layer, aiming to guide large emission sources in conducting GHG inventories and meeting the standards for participating in the carbon market.
On the course, businesses are provided with theoretical knowledge and participate in practical activities by simulating global policies. The programme has been experienced and highly appreciated by over 285,000 people in 171 countries, including more than 130 members of the United States Congress.
