With the main theme “Truly Classics,” this year’s programme bristles with drama and romance, with musical pieces written for the Opera House, some as incidental music for the theatre, and others for dramatic occasions, such as Handel’s Water Music, written at the bequest of King George I for a concert to be performed on a barge floating down the River Thames, and Elgar’s Salut d’Amour, an engagement present to his fiancée.
Tickets will be available from October 20.
Speaking at the press conference, Do Thu Hoang, vice president of TMV, shared that over the last 19 years, Toyota Classics has been annually organised to bring world-class classical music closer to music lovers in Vietnam, contributing to the development of the Vietnamese music industry.
“We are overjoyed that the programme has become one of the most expected music events each year, with 19 concerts held, attracting nearly 10,000 music-lovers and highlighting famous symphony orchestras from the United Kingdom, Hungary, and Finland. The programme also creates opportunities for talented Vietnamese artists to perform with international orchestras, namely singer Tung Duong, violinist Hoang Tuan Cuong, and Nguyen Huu Nguyen, among others,” Hoang added.
In the 20th year of organisation, Toyota Classics 2017 will feature the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra (RPCO)—a famous English orchestra with a long history, under the baton of conductor Anthony Weeden and violinist David Juritz.
The concert will also see the return of young pianist Luu Hong Quang who received numerous piano awards in Australia, and performing with famous orchestras such as Queensland and Metropolitan in Sydney, and Wuhan in China. He is currently a teacher in Australia Music Performing Institute (AMPA).
With the talent and creativity of young pianist Luu Hong Quang, in combination with the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, the programme will feature heart-rending melodies.

“We highly appreciate the effort of Toyota to bring this academic music to the Vietnamese audience. The event is made even more meaningful by the fact that all proceeds from ticket sales will be used for charitable activities,” said Nguyen Phuong, deputy director of the Department of International Cooperation under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
The annual organisation of Toyota Classics is part of TMV’s efforts to enhance the quality of spiritual life in the community, as well as contribute to the development Vietnamese culture.
This year, Toyota Classics 2017 tours six ASEAN countries, including Thailand, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, and Vietnam, between October 10 and November 4.
Since its inception in 1990, Toyota Classics has been holding full-house concerts across Asia. The charity concerts helped to promote classical music in the region. To date, Toyota Classics has raised $9.03 million to benefit local charities across Asia.
In Vietnam, since 2009, all ticket proceeds are used for the “Toyota Scholarship for Vietnam Young Music Talents” programme, financing 730 scholarships up to now.
Striving to become a “good citizen in the local community” since its establishment, TMV has been organising various meaningful social activities, focusing on traffic safety, training-education and human resources development, environmental protection, and culture-society.
