APEC Vietnam 2017’s official logo and mascot contain meaningful messages that the Vietnamese host as well as Danang city, where APEC Economic Leaders' Week is organised, wants to transfer to the public and the 21 APEC members alike.

First, it showcases APEC’s spirit of co-operation. 21 sunrays symbolise the 21 APEC economies. The three colours of blue, red, and yellow represent APEC’s three pillars of co-operation, including investment and trade liberalisation, business facilitation, and technical economic cooperation. The circular shape is evocative of a rotating turbine representing APEC's dynamism.

Besides, the patterns of Lac birds in flight, a symbol of Dong Son bronze drums, depict the quintessence of traditional Vietnamese culture perpetually tracing back to its genesis.

The logo showcases innovation through the shape of Lac birds appearing in the logo for the first time to illustrate the 21 economies through 21 modern, stylised, strong, and simple strokes.

The Danang Party Committee decided to use the endangered red-shanked douc langur as the identicated symbol of the city on the occasion that the APEC Economic Leaders' Week is orgainsed in Danang.

The choice is indicative of the municipal administration’s efforts to build an environmentally-friendly city. The species, largely populating Son Tra Peninsula, is dubbed ‘the queen of primates’ for its iconic beauty.

According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the species can also be found in Laos and Cambodia. It is listed in Vietnam’s Red Book and is on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
