Arizona State University (ASU) and the Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology (PTIT), an academic institution under Vietnam’s Ministry of Information and Communications, just signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on collaboration to enhance the learning outcomes of Vietnamese students.

ASU and PTIT have agreed to collaborate to advance instructional approaches in Vietnam through jointly hosting an international conference in Hanoi, a short training course on cyber security at ASU, the establishment of a joint Masters of Science (in information assurance) programme at PTIT, and the development of a new learning management system for PTIT.

ASU and PTIT will closely work in planning and executing the programme to facilitate its specific objectives.

“This MOU has set the basic framework for the collaboration between the two educational organizations. We are convinced that it will help PTIT advance modern instructional approaches and curricula to improve the learning outcome of PTIT’s exclusive information and network security students,” said PTIT president Hoang Minh.

“Through this agreement, we are happy to support PTIT and enhance their student’s learning outcomes,” said Michael Crow, ASU president.

“These efforts are a testament to Arizona State University being the ‘New American University’ which works collaboratively across borders and cultures, and across fields of expertise, to form partnerships that use local knowledge to make a global impact, and global knowledge to make an impact locally,” Crow added.

In addition to the partnership with PTIT, ASU has been working with Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training and other partners including USAID and Intel on another long-term programme, namely Higher Engineering Education Alliance Programme (HEEAP).

The programme began in 2010 with the involvement of five of Vietnam’s top technical universities and in 2011 expanded to include three vocational colleges.

Arizona State University – ASU is one of US’ leading public research universities and is ranked among the top 100 universities in the world.

Known for innovation and entrepreneurism, ASU has pioneered the model for a New American University with a focus on accessibility and quality education, training students to learn for a lifetime.

Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology was established under Decision No 516-TTg dated July 11, 1997 on the basis of rearranging four members of the Vietnam National Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT).

The institute is implementing two fundamental functions: Education, training and scientific research, consultancy, technology transfer in the fields of posts, telecommunications and information technology in order to meet the demands of the society and its management authority VNPT.
