CS Wind Vietnam, a subsidiary of South Korea's CS Wind Corporation, inaugurated an $80 million offshore wind tower facility in Phu My 1 Industrial Park, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, on March 13.

CS Wind opened its first factory in Phu My 1 Industrial Park in 2003, but due to the growing global demand for wind towers, the company has built a new factory next door to produce offshore wind towers for international customers.

Covering 24 hectares, the new factory has a capacity of 120 wind towers per week, including large offshore wind towers with a diameter of 10m and a weight of 450 tonnes. The first factory produces offshore wind towers with a maximum diameter of 7-7.5m.

The new factory consumes about 28,000 tonnes of steel per month, and is the largest of its kind in Southeast Asia, according to CS Wind. The move is also part of CS Wind's plans to meet the rising demands of the global wind power market, predicted to grow four to five times by 2025.

Last August, the Korea Trade Insurance Corporation (K-SURE) announced that it would provide financial support of $110 million for the construction of the wind tower factory in Vietnam.

In accordance with a supply contract signed with Spanish wind power company SGRE, a total of $3 billion worth of offshore wind towers will be supplied by 2030.

CS Wind Vietnam is the first wind tower production base for CS Wind, which counts customers including world-leading wind turbine makers like Vestas, Siemens Gamesa, GE, and Goldwind. It has become a core factory for CS Wind to reach the Asian, South Pacific, and US markets, and has also led the establishment of factories in China and Canada.

During its 20 years of operations, CS Wind Vietnam has been constantly investing in productivity improvement to become the leader in the offshore wind power era. The company is now home to over 800 staff.
