Slated to be put into operation in the second quarter of 2027, the VTS cable will be the shortest cable directly connecting Singapore and Vietnam.
Ooi Seng Keat, vice president of Digital Infrastructure and Services at Singtel, said, "Vietnam is one of the world’s fastest growing digital economies, with businesses and consumers adopting new technologies such as AI and data-intensive applications. The construction of the VTS cable will support the increasing demand for higher-bandwidth and lower-latency connectivity."
The partnership is in line with Vietnam’s strategy for developing its own international-standard optical cable system by 2030, with the goal of becoming a Southeast Asian digital hub. The country is aiming to increase its total number of submarine cables to at least 15 systems with a total capacity of at least 334 terabits per second (tbps).
Once put into operation, the VTS cable will add hundreds of tbps to Viettel’s total international connectivity and provide a large amount of high-speed capacity, opening up new connections and enhancing the redundancy and security of Viettel’s international connection infrastructure.
Nguyen Manh Ho, general director of Viettel Solutions, said, "The VTS submarine cable project affirms Viettel's pioneering role in helping the government develop world-class digital infrastructure in Vietnam."
