About 300 employees of Roche Pharmaceuticals Vietnam today joined tens of thousands of Roche staff all over the world in the company’s annual Children’s Walk.

The Roche Children’s Walk is a sponsored walk of Roche’s employees worldwide to raise funds for children in need. In Vietnam, proceeds of the walk will be used to improve the lives of unfortunate children locally and in Malawi, Africa.

Employees raise funds through sponsorship of their walks, which are then matched by Roche in its efforts to support needy Vietnamese children as well as HIV/AIDS orphaned children in Malawi. Part of the money will assist local beneficiaries, enabling them to receive food, healthcare, counseling, shelter and education. The remaining amount will go to the children in Malawi through projects run by Roche’s global partner organisations – the European Coalition of Positive People (ECPP) and UNICEF Switzerland, to support education and basic needs, and help provide skills training and opportunities for children and young adults.

“It gives me a great feeling of pride and value to be involved in fundraising to support needy children in Vietnam and children of parents with HIV/AIDS in Malawi. The overwhelming support from our Vietnamese employees is both inspiring and personally very humbling,” said Inge Kusuma, country manager of Roche Pharmaceuticals Vietnam.

“This programme is part of Roche’s commitment to improve the lives of individuals and communities in Vietnam and across the globe, both now and for a sustainable future.”

In Vietnam, Roche employees nationwide walked for a distance of five kilometres. This represents the distance children in Malawi walk each day to access basic amenities and education. The Roche Children’s Walk takes place at more than 120 company locations worldwide. Now in its tenth year, Roche globally has raised approximately 9.6 million Swiss Francs (VND213 billion) since the first Walk in 2003, with participation from more than 115,000 employees.
