PM receives WB Group President

Viet Nam appreciates the assistance and cooperation of the World Bank (WB) for its socio-economic development process, especially in poverty reduction and sustainable development and expects to receive the WB’s continued assistance in human resource development and policy consultancy and in realizing development goals.

PM Nguyen Tan Dung made that statement during his reception for WB Group President Jim Yong Kim on February 23 in Ha Noi.

The PM hailed the close coordination between Viet Nam’s functional agencies and the WB in establishing the Viet Nam 2035 Report, which proposes specific goals and measures for the national development.

Besides achievements over the recent 30 years, Viet Nam has to face difficulties and challenges stemming from climate change, high sea-level rise and war consequences.

The country hopes to receive more assistance from the WB in fulfilling its development goals, especially in human resources, access to preferential credit and policy consultancy.

For his side, Mr. Jim Yong Kim said that Viet Nam has gained a number of achievements in socio-economic development, poverty reduction, narrowing the development gap and improving people’s lives.

He expected that with long-term vision, extensive international integration and huge efforts, Viet Nam will make great progress in the future.

He confirmed that the WB will help Viet Nam get access to preferential loans with low interest rates to develop renewable energy, education and health.

The WB Group President presented the Viet Nam 2035 Report: Towards prosperity, creativity, equality and democracy (Viet Nam 2035 Report) to PM Nguyen Tan Dung.

The report, carried out within one year by professionals from Viet Nam and the WB, focuses on measures and orientations to make Viet Nam become an industrial and high middle-income nation by 2035.
