Vietnam began administering the first COVID-19 vaccines on March 8, opening the country’s largest-ever vaccination programme with no side effects reported till now.

In the first round of COVID-19 vaccination using Vaccine AstraZeneca, 377 health professionals in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and the northern province of Hai Duong were injected.

Specifically, in Hanoi, at National Hospital of Tropical Diseases in Dong An district, 66 health staff were vaccinated. As planned, in the first stage, the hospital gets 450 doses of COVID-19 Vaccine AstraZeneca out of the country’s total allocated 117,600 doses.

In Hai Duong – the current epicentre of the pandemic – 207 health staff were administered the drug. As decided by the Ministry of Health, the province will receive 33,000 doses of the vaccine, the largest amount in the country this time.

On the same day, he COVID-19 vaccination also began at the Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Ho Chi Minh City with 104 people receiving the injection. As planned, in the first stage, the hospital will be allocated 900 doses of the vaccine.

Deputy Ministers of Health Nguyen Truong Son, Do Xuan Tuyen, and Tran Van Thuan led the ministry’s working groups to supervise the preparations and vaccinations in the three localities.

In the first installment, the MoH will distribute COVID-19 Vaccine AstraZeneca for 13 cities and provinces, the Ministry of National Defence, the Ministry of Public Security, and 21 hospitals.

On March 9, the vaccination continues to be carried out in the planned localities.
