MoIT and Samsung launch collaborative Smart Factory Development Project

This joint effort aims to enhance the professional capabilities of domestic consulting experts and improve production operations by leveraging the company's IT platform.

According to Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai, Vietnamese manufacturing enterprises face significant challenges in a highly competitive market, not only from international giants but also within the domestic arena. Consequently, the development of smart factories has become an imperative for local manufacturing firms.

Recently, the MoIT has collaborated with multinational corporations and large foreign-invested enterprises in the country to bolster the quality of human resources and enhance the competitive capacity of domestic businesses in processing, manufacturing, and support industries.

The collaboration with Samsung Vietnam, in particular, has focused on training experts, providing production improvement consultancy services, developing human resources for the mould industry, and supporting the establishment of smart factories.

Hai highlighted the positive impact of these programmes on the Vietnamese industrial sector, fostering widespread ripple effects and enabling domestic enterprises to seize development opportunities and participate in the global supply chain.

The smart factory development support projects currently being implemented across various localities fall within the framework of the Smart Factory Development Cooperation Project.

The MoU, signed between Samsung and the MoIT in February 2022, sets forth the objective of supporting smart factory development in 50 enterprises and training 100 Vietnamese experts in smart factory consultancy over a two-year period (2022-2023).

By the end of 2022, Samsung, together with the MoIT, had successfully provided training to 51 experts in smart factory technologies in Vietnam and offered consultancy services for smart factory development to 26 businesses nationwide – encompassing 14 enterprises in the northern region and 12 in the south.

In 2023, the project will continue its implementation, targeting 24 businesses across the country.

Choi Joo Ho, CEO of Samsung Vietnam, expressed the company's commitment to fortify cooperation in the field of smart manufacturing, building on the achievements accomplished during the past seven years of supporting the development of Vietnam's supporting industries. Samsung's focus aligns with the Vietnamese government's long-term vision of generating value-added production within the industrial sector.

Through this project, Vietnamese enterprises will consolidate their competitiveness to meet global standards throughout the entire value chain, encompassing development, production, and sales.

In conjunction with the commencement of Phase 1 of the Smart Factory Development Cooperation Project for 2023, a ceremony was conducted to formalise consultancy support agreements with 12 participating enterprises.

The notable businesses, hailing from Hanoi, and Bac Ninh, Hung Yen, Vinh Phuc and Ha Nam provinces, include Thang Long Packaging Production and Import-Export JSC, Hong Ha Printing JSC, AMA Bac Ninh JSC, and Vinasaco International JSC, among others.

The initiation of this collaborative project sets a promising trajectory for the development of smart factories in Vietnam, promoting technological advancements and enabling domestic enterprises to thrive amidst fierce competition in both the domestic and international markets.
