Ground broken for Vam Cong bridge in Mekong delta

PM Nguyen Tan Dung on September 10 attended a ground breaking ceremony for the Vam Cong bridge that spans over the Hau River in the Mekong delta province of Dong Thap.
Vam Cong is one of the three components of the Mekong Delta Connectivity Project to facilitate trade business among the Southwestern region and key economic zones in the South


PM Dung hailed the endeavors of the Ministry of Transport, related ministries, agencies, and enterprises of Viet Nam and the Republic of Korea, and local residents in preparations for the construction of the bridge.

He asked the Ministry of Transport to monitor the involved businesses as well as the bidders in complying with regulations on quality and labor safety to ensure construction schedule will be met.

Vam Cong is one of the three components of the Mekong Delta Connectivity Project to facilitate trade business among the Southwestern region and key economic zones in the South to generate strong impetus for the development of the region and the country as well.

The bridge was designed to encompass four mechanical lanes and two primitive lanes and allow an average travel speed of 80km per hour. 

The 2.9km bridge has a total investment of over $271 million and is expected to open to traffic after 48 months of construction.
