The forum aimed to strengthen corporate governance from perspective of professionalising the role of investor relations among the leaders of companies listed on the HOSE, which will in the long run help to drive a more sustainable growth for the companies.
With nearly 20 years’ experience in the field of investor relations and deep understanding on global investors’ needs and concerns, Harold Woo’s presentation and his discussion with the representatives from listed companies gave the attendees valuable insights on investor relations, enabling companies to apply advanced corporate governance principles to drive growth and integrate successfully.
Tran Anh Dao, deputy CEO of HOSE said in her opening speech that the concept of investor relations was no longer new to Vietnamese enterprises.
“While this is one of the topics receiving much attention and interest of foreign investors especially institutional ones, most Vietnam listed companies still do not place enough emphasis on investor relations activities. For many foreign investors, one of the key impediments when investing in Vietnam is the limited access to corporate information,” Dao noted.
The launching of the ASEAN Economic Community at the end of 2015 and the recently concluded Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement has opened up tremendous opportunities to drive a nation’s economic growth.
The economic stability and key structural reforms being actively implemented have attracted strong domestic and foreign investment to the capital market, especially the stock market.
Corporations and the entire economy will have more opportunities to raise new capital to grow further and faster.
Capital is a critical factor to help businesses in maintaining market shares, expanding their businesses in the fierce competition especially against international corporations who eye for rapidly increased disposal income of Vietnam’s 90 million population.
However, in order to access to the both middle and long term investments, domestic corporates need to establish trust with the investors and they need to start doing it right now.
Kim Thien Quang, Maybank Kim Eng Securities’ CEO said, “Maybank Kim Eng believes that Vietnam is very well positioned to benefit from the AEC and TPP. Being the biggest equities broker in ASEAN with comprehensive and deep footprint across the region and offices in developed markets like UK and US, we will be able to offer Vietnam corporates the bridge to connect to global investors as well as other corporates in the same industries world-wide, given our strong relationships with institutional investors and deep understanding of the local business landscape.”
Maybank Kim Eng is the investment banking securities arm of Maybank, Malaysia's flagship financial services player.
The Investor Relations Forum is another reflection of Maybank Kim Eng’s long-term commitment to contribute to the growth and development of Vietnam enterprises, whether in strengthening their business operations or exploring market opportunities to promote national economic growth.
