Vietnam’s Minister of Planning and Investment (MPI) Bui Quang Vinh and Singapore’s Minister for Trade and Industry Lim Hng Kiang co-chaired the 9th Vietnam-Singapore Connectivity Meeting on April 16 in Ho Chi Minh City. The ministers discussed the progress of the two governments’ six sectors of cooperation under the Connectivity Framework ranging from education and training, finance, information technology and telecommunications and transportation. Addressing the meeting after listening to business and cooperation issues raised by the Singaporean side, Vinh pledged to personally address some problems and assign other agencies and provincial officials to support cooperation and trade ties between the two countries. He said the connectivity meeting was important within the nations’ bilateral relationship and the Vietnamese government was already aware of obstacles hampering foreign investment. Vinh said the MPI, with support from the Singapore government, would hold a Vietnam investment promotion conference in Singapore late this year where, he and other high ranking Vietnamese officials would meet with CEOs of multinationals present in Singapore to show them what Vietnam had to offer and answer their questions.
