Thirty children from from poor families throughout Vietnam will undergo operations for carrying out for other congenital and acquiring severe penile inadequacies thank to the 10th mission of Thien Nhan and Friends (Genital Reconstruction for Children) which started in Hanoi at Viet Duc Hospital on November 18, then will move to Danang Mother and Children Hospital and finally to Ho Chi Minh City at Children’s Hospital 2.

Thien Nhan and Friends (Genital Reconstruction for Children) was established by Philanthropist Greig Craft, Hoang Na Huong and Tran Mai Anh with Dr. Roberto DeCastro for nearly ten years ago. "The outpouring of donations from everyday Vietnamese citizens, and private contributions from the US and Italy has been incredible," said Craft.

Thien Nhan and Friends organizes genital reconstruction surgeries for poor Vietnamese children suffering from severe genital birth defects or loss of genitals from trauma, in addition to providing family financial support and travel costs.

The project was inspired by “Miracle Baby” Thien Nhan, an infant discarded at birth and left to die in a jungle. He suffered total loss of genitals and loss of one leg from a brutal mauling by wild animals. He has since been adopted by Tran Mai Anh and lives happily with his new family in Hanoi, Vietnam. He is the official Goodwill Ambassador.

After news spread of Thien Nhan successful surgery by Dr. Roberto DeCastro, poor families from throughout Vietnam came forward with their own tragic situations. Genital problems are not typically discussed in Asian society, but Thien Nhan’s story changed this. 200 surgeries have been carried out to date.

This year, thirty children from poor families throughout Vietnam will undergo operations for carrying out for other congenital and acquiring severe penile inadequacies including phalloplasty for penile genesis, cloacal exstrophy, rudimentary micropenis, PAIS, and traumatic and iatrogenic penile amputations. 200 will be evaluated for surgeries for next June
