Ministry proposes preservation of King Tran relic site

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has submitted a project proposal to the Prime Minister for the preservation of the King Tran Relic Site in Dong Trieu distrct of Quang Ninh Province.

The project aims to research, study, excavate and preserve the historical relic site of King Tran Nhan Tong, third king of the Tran dynasty. There are also plans to develop the area into a tourist destination, retracing the religious phase of the period.

During 15 years of his reign, King Tran fought and defeated Mongol invaders and at the age of 35 abdicated his throne and spent the rest of his life on the Yen Tu Mountain practicing and propagating Buddhism, and founding the Truc Lam School of Zen or the Bamboo Forest School.

During that time, the King-Monk Tran Nhan Tong worked to unify different sects of Vietnamese Buddhism into Vietnamese Zen Buddhism.

The project will cover an area of 11,095 hectares that has many tangible and intangible heritage relics. Funds for the preservation project will come from the state budget, and national and international organizations.
