Vietnam’s agriculture has reaped many achievements last year. Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan writes about how the sector will continue sailing forward in the new year.

Vietnam has earned continued urge on further modernising its agricultural sector as a key solution to raising product value, thereby increasing export earnings and taking maximum benefits from free trade agreements.

Vietnam’s agriculture got hit hard by the pandemic as trade and social restrictions hampered the flow of goods and left many sitting on their produce and livestock. Nevertheless, according to Dr. Tran Cong Thang, director of the Institute of Policy and Strategy for Agricultural and Rural Development under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the country’s farmers and agricultural businesses have shown resilience, and are now ready to cash in on many international trade deals that Vietnam signed throughout the last few years.

Although the prices of organic products are higher than refined or processed equivalents, this is offset by their precious value to human health and the environment, and grown in accordance with the forward-thinking environmental model of co-existence and sustainability, according to one top Vietnamese group in the field.
