South Korea's leading travel retail group Lotte Duty Free has opened a duty-free store in the centre of Danang.

IPP Group has proposed pouring VND10 trillion ($440 million) into the whole non-tariff area of Van Don Special Administrative-Economic Zone in 2018-2023.

Opened nearly a decade ago, the Lao Bao Special Economic and Trade Zone in Quang Tri province is a sumptuous overstatement of duty free options in comparison to crossing points in neighbouring provinces. Informally, Lao Bao is known as “the 500,000 gate”, as those passing through to seek foreign-made goods at duty free prices, but can spend no more than VND500,000 per person. As managers plan extensions of the already grandiose centre, travellers wonder when the glass spending ceiling will break.
