Slaughtering and consuming dog and cat meat not only takes place in Vietnam but also occurs in many countries around the world. But while neighbouring countries such as the Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, and Japan have issued a ban and strict sanctions, the law of Vietnam has not yet provided a criminal regulation for this behaviour.

Vietnam is home to a vibrant culture and various interesting customs, even including eating dog and cat meat for a long time. Despite the long-standing habit, which is still being practiced by a number of people, these pets are becoming closest friends to many, with the attitude towards them being changed day by day.
