Quang Tri Airport spans across 265 hectares within Gio Quang, Gio Hai, and Gio Mai communes of Gio Linh district, with a total investment capital of VND5.8 trillion ($228.3 million).
Quang Tri Airport will be developed to meet the standards of a level 4C airport defined by the International Civil Aviation Organisation and a level II military airport, with the capability to accommodate code E aircraft for parking.
Additionally, it will fulfill the operational requirements for approximately five million passengers per year and handle a cargo capacity of 25,500 tonnes annually.
The project will be carried out for 50 years. Among them, it takes 24 months for preparation and construction and 47 years and two months for operation and toll collection to recoup the investment. The construction of the airport is slated to be completed in July 2026.
The project was approved for investment and construction under the public-private partnership model as per Decision No. 2148/QD-TTg issued in December 2021.
The airport is expected to meet the soaring demand for air transport, contributing to local socioeconomic development. At the same time, the project aims to ensure high mobility in military operations and disaster relief efforts in the central region in general and Quang Tri in particular.

Quang Tri Airport is an important aspect of the local transport network, boosting local socioeconomic development.”
Addressing the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long said he appreciated Quang Tri People’s Committee, the Ministry of Transport, and relevant agencies for overcoming obstacles and facilitating the airport project.
