PM Lee expresses condolences to families, friends of those on MH370

SINGAPORE: Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has expressed his condolences to the families and friends of those on board Malaysia Airlines MH370.

In a Facebook post, Mr Lee said he is deeply saddened to hear about the tragic fate of the aircraft.

He was writing the post following a press conference by Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak on Monday night.

The Malaysian prime minister said satellite data indicated that flight MH370 had ended its journey in the southern Indian Ocean.

Mr Lee said for more than two weeks, there was hope that somehow the worst had not happened.

He said he understood how anguished and desperate the families and friends of those on board must be feeling.

Mr Lee added that while there is still no full understanding about what happened to flight MH370, he hopes the latest news will nonetheless give some certainty and closure to the families of those on board the missing aircraft.

Meanwhile, Foreign Affairs and Law Minister K Shanmugam said he is saddened by the news that the missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 has ended in a remote part of the southern Indian Ocean.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday morning, he said, "This must be a heartbreaking time for the families and friends of the crew and passengers.

"I hope they will find the strength and support of their loved ones to face the difficult days ahead.”
