NA adopts project on building Long Thanh Airport
The NA asked the Government to develop a feasible report on the project’s phases and send it to the NA for approval before deciding on the investment.
The NA also allowed land one-time land acquisition for the project and asked the Government to compensate, support, resettle and create jobs for people in the acquired region for the project.
The Government was also required to manage and use effectively the project’s approved land which are reserved for future use; develop socio-economic infrastructure; develop production and stabilize affected people’s life.
The NA asked for safety, punctuality, quality and socio-economic effectiveness, national defence, security, investment efficiency, anti-corruption in implementing the project while environmental effects and solutions should be evaluated and investment sources should be balanced as regulated to avoid bad effects on public debts.
In addition, the NA requested Tan Son Nhat International Airport to be invested and operated effectively during the construction of Long Thanh International Airport.
Long Thanh International Airport is planned to be an important national airport and an international aviation hub in the region with capacity of 100 million passengers and five tons of cargo per year.
The US$16.03 billion project’s first phase is planned to be completed in 2025 when a runway, a terminal and other support facilities will be operated to serve 25 million passengers and 1.2 million tons of cargo per year. The investment for the first phase is US$5.45 billion.
In phases 2 and 3, more runways and terminals will be completed to serve 100 million passengers and five million tons of cargo per year.
The investment will be sourced from the State budget, equitized State enterprises of aviation sector, official development assistance, businesses, public private partnership investment and other capital as regulated.
The airport will be built on 5,000ha, including 2,750ha for the infrastructure, 1,050ha for national defence and 1,200ha for support and commercial facilities.
Advanced technologies will be applied in building, managing and operating the airport.
