An increasingly comprehensive transport network is opening up space and creating motivation for the northern province of Hung Yen's socioeconomic development.

The inauguration of a 23.8km road connecting Hanoi-Haiphong Expressway with Cau Gie-Ninh Binh Expressway took place on July 7 in the province.

With a total investment touching $75 million, the road meets grade II expressway standards, and with an initial speed limit of 80km/h.

The road travels through 20 communes in the province, starting in Ly Thuong Kiet commune and ending in Phuong Chieu commune.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said, “The project is significant in terms of both traffic and development space, positively contributing to the sustainable, long-term growth of Hung Yen. Beyond Hung Yen, the project will promote the development of localities in the Red River Delta, as well as bringing great advantages to the capital region and neighbouring areas.”

To maximise the efficiency of the route, Hung Yen has asked the government to consider upgrading the road to a highway. The upgrade will connect the province with the country's main highways, contributing to promoting socioeconomic development in Hung Yen and in northern and north-central regions, whilst contributing to turning Hung Yen into a centrally-governed city.

Along the route, a raft of industrial parks are popping up, including IP No. 5 and Pham Ngu Lao-Nghia Dan IC.

Hung Yen is also scaling up efforts to accelerate the pace of other important projects such as Tan Phuc-Vong Phan road with a total investment value exceeding $124 million; upgrading and expanding Hanoi-Hung Yen interprovincial road, extending the section through Hung Yen with a length of about 33.5km at $120.8 million; and building a road from National Highway No.39 to extended District Road No.42 for $8.5 million.

As a key transport infrastructure project, Tan Phuc-Vong Phan road runs 29.2km.

The road has four lanes that meet grade III expressway standards, with a speed limit of 80km/h.

“When the road opens, it will smoothen transportation and create motivation for the development of An Thi, Tien Lu, and Phu Cu districts, as well as ensuring the comprehensive development of the province,” said Nguyen Huu Nghia, Secretary of Hung Yen Party Committee at the project's inauguration ceremony, also held on July 7.

This is an important project forming an inter-regional route connecting Hanoi-Haiphong Expressway with the provinces of Thai Binh and Nam Dinh.

A raft of transport infrastructure projects in the province are being accelerated, leveraging concerted efforts from management at all levels and diverse sectors.

For instance, a project to upgrade and expand an extended interprovincial route connecting Hanoi and Hung Yen is already 70 per cent complete.

Another project to renovate and upgrade Provincial Road No.380 from District Road No.34 to My Hao power station is also expected to be basically completed by December 31, and a road from National Highway No.39 to the extended District Road No.42 has seen the roadbed, pavements, drainage, and other items completed, while bridge construction is underway.

Hung Yen's investments in its transport network and industrial and urban infrastructure have been synchronous, and should provide motivation to propel development.

According to a new plan for Hung Yen, it will become a modern industrial locality, with an economic scale and development level among the highest in the country.

One of the strategic breakthroughs identified by the province is focusing on investment and development of main traffic roads connecting major highways and national roads heading to Hanoi and other localities in the region, as well as connecting with regional economic, industrial, and commercial centres.

In recent years, Hung Yen has spent hundreds of millions of US dollars of public investment building key roads. These include a section of Ring Road No.4 around Hanoi that passes through the province, a road connecting Provincial Road No.387 with Hanoi-Haiphong Expressway, a trunk road connecting National Highway No.39 with Provincial Road No.376, among others.

While vital transport projects are contributing to regional links and socioeconomic development, the private investment picture in the sector is yet to brighten.
