On July 18, Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee approved the settlement of investment registration documents to expand the BESI project.

On July 11, the SHTP Management Board issued a dispatch reporting to Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee for consideration and approval of BESI's phase 2 expansion project.

BESI was granted an investment licence by the SHTP management board on October 3, 2023. In February 2024, the Dutch maker of chip equipment inaugurated a 2,000 square metre plant with capital of $5 million in the first phase of the park.

For the second phase, BESI plans to build the factory covering two hectares, which is slated to start construction in June 2025.

The SHTP management board realises the goal and scale of BESI's phase 2 project in line with Lot I-14.6, with an area of 1.98ha. The plot is expected to attract factories manufacturing equipment and machinery used in microchip production lines.

Another Dutch high-tech firm, VDL, also confirmed its plan to build a new semiconductor component factory in northeast Vietnam. The schedule is for the first modules to leave the new plant to supply international customers by the end of the first quarter of 2025.

VDL, which has other locations in Singapore and China, said many of its customers are following a China+1 strategy to diversify their manufacturing base. VDL’s global customers are asking for even better global coverage, with local production for the local market.

“About 60 colleagues will initially join us in Vietnam,” the company said, without disclosing the size of the investment.
