Central banks of Vietnam and Malaysia agree to co-operate

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) for co-operation between the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) and the central bank of Malaysia, Bank Negara Malaysia, was signed in Hanoi on December 4.

SBV Governor Nguyen Van Giau and Zeti Akhtar Aziz, Governor of the Bank Negara Malaysia signed the memorandum.

The MoU aims to establish a framework for co-operation between the SBV and Bank Negara Malaysia in areas such as promoting regional financial integration; sharing knowledge and experiences to develop the financial sector; and exchanging information and experiences regarding banking supervision, monetary policies, foreign exchange management, money markets, and other economic information.

The signing of this MoU will strengthen and expand the existing traditional relationship between the two countries, by enhancing the information exchanges and personnel training, as well as creating favourable conditions for the two banks to integrate in regional and international financial systems.
